Achefer drone strike : Abiy Ahmed drones killed Civilians in Amhara, Ethiopia

Civilians in the Amhara region of Ethiopia once again killed by the drone strike of the Nobel peace prize winner of 2019, Abiy Ahmed Ali.


On November 5, 2024, in the Southern Achefer district of the Amhara region, Abiy Ahmed's forces (ENDF) launched a brutal assault, killing 43 civilians and leaving 21 others severely wounded.



Video and pictures of the aftermath of the drone strike published on X shows the casualties were with no military uniforms.





The Abiy Ahmed regime actions in Amhara have been under scrutiny, with claims of targeting civilians during these state lead terrorism on civilians. However, there are also government statements denying that drones are frequently used or that they intentionally target civilians, with claims that military operations aim at Fano's while trying to avoid civilian casualties. But, reports go against the propaganda of the prosperity party regime of Ethiopia.


According to a recent drone strike report by the Amhara Association in America (AAA) a disproportionate civilian casualties documented.


For the period between September 25th and October 24th, 2024, over 43 drone and airstrikes were reported across 28 incidents. The incidents were reported across 22 woreda administrations in 9 zones of Amhara Region. Casualties were confirmed in 21 incidents. Over the reporting period, 273 casualties were recorded including 196 persons killed and 77 injured with the majority being civilians. Among the victims were young children, women, and elderly persons.


The total number of recorded drone and airstrikes for the period from August 4th, 2023 to October 24th, 2024 is 95 which resulted in 824 civilian casualties including 629 killed and 195 injured.

In the Achefer drone strike besides civilian casualties, ENDF decimated homes and destroyed critical infrastructure, including a health center and a school, in targeted strikes that devastated multiple areas within the district.
